Welcome back to another busy term!

This term we will be learning about Space.  This will include night, day, dark, light, sun, moon, planets, space exploration!  This week the children wanted to know all about rockets, how they work and where they can take us.

We have begun the week talking about rocket boosters, the moon and the sun, gravity and the earth’s atmosphere.

We have started to make “Jet Packs” and the Noisy Quiet Room has been transformed into the night’s sky, with the children decorating the doors with stars and planets.

If you have anything at home your child may wish to bring in, please do, it opens up all manner of discussion and learning and is just good fun to see what others play with and read.

Below are a few photos of what we have been doing in our first few days back and we will be expanding on the subject of Space in the week’s to come.

End of term

We have come to the end of another fun filled term knowing more about ourselves than we did to start with.  We have been development our skills, along with Primary 1, in being kind, polite and encouraging to one another, especially during team games.  We have discovered and developed our five senses by feeling the wind in our faces, looking at the changes taking place around us, listening for bird song and other sounds and smelling the delicious aromas coming from the kitchen, when we have been out on our Wiggle walk around the school.  We’ve also enjoyed tasting our snacks and talking about where our food comes from especially around harvest festival time.  Hope you have also enjoyed hearing from the children about what they have been discovering.

Visit from author

This week we ended with a visit from Pauline MacKay.  Pauline lives in Inverness and has a has had a few children’s books published.  We all enjoyed the story about ‘Finding Wee MacNessie’ and joined in a song to finish with.    We are all looking forward to the end of term with our Wellie Walk on Tuesday with the whole school.

Healthy Eating and Autumn

This week we are discussing the new season of Autumn and eating healthily.

At the craft table we have been making plates of our favourite snacks and meals, come and have a look if you have the time!

We are taking a walk around the farm next week to look at the crops that are grown locally and are currently being harvested and how this links with eating healthily.

As well as this, we will be continuing with All about Me until the October holidays.

Mrs MacRae will be leaving at the end of the week and we would like to wish her all the best and thank her for her hard work and dedication within our nursery.

Learning all about me and my body!

We hope everyone had a great holiday and are raring to go with a new nursery year! All the children have settled in really well, are beginning to make new friends and we look forward to these relationships developing and strengthening over the coming months.

To start this term we are going to be concentrating on looking after ourselves, finding out ‘all about me’ and how our bodies work. Next week we will start

to explore the 5 senses, what they are and how they help us in our daily lives.

We would also like to thank all the parents who contributed to the cost of buying a new Little Tikes Pick up truck at the end of last term, we really appreciate your generosity and the children are loving playing in it!

If you have any questions or queries please don’t hesitate to speak to any one of us, we are all here to help!

First Shinty Sessions

We have started to participate in First Shinty lessons and have arranged for Mrs Marshall (Tina) to come in for three consecutive weeks to develop the children’s skills. Both Mrs Marshall and Mrs MacRae are qualified shinty coaches regulated by the Camanachd Association.

We hope that the children enjoy these sessions and if the Nursery 4 children would like to pursue their interest further then once they join Primary One there is training on a Tuesday after school.
