Learning about Fire!

We had a fantastic morning in the woods today learning all about fire! We learned how to start and maintain a fire, how to be safe around a fire and how to toast marshmallows to perfection!

We were joined by Lorna, who is an Early Years Practitioner at Summerlings Outdoor Nursery, as part of the Developing the Young Workforce Week we are taking part in at school. Lorna told us about what it is like to be outside helping children to learn all day and she shared her fire starting knowledge with us too! As you can see she did a great job and the fire burned well for our whole session. The teams used their knife skills to sharpen the perfect toasting stick, they listened to stories about the different trees in the forest and they all had a go at using a fire steel to create sparks to ignite a small fire. It was a great morning and we even dodged the rain showers!

What a trustworthy, confident and responsible team we are! 🙂
