Shinty Fun!
Over the next few weeks Tina has agreed to come in and put us through our paces and teach us shinty. Today was our first session and everyone did really well! We played ‘Stuck in the Mud’, worked on our passing, stopping and dribbling skills and then I ended up in goals while your little ones (a little too enthusiastically) used me as their target and tried to score goals!
We had a think about what we learned, I wonder if your child can tell you something they learned today that they didn’t know before or what they enjoyed most about our first shinty session? If they leave a comment they’ll earn some House Points!

Orla says that she learned how to hold her shinty stick in the correct position.
She loved watching everyone whacking Ms MacKenzie….. (sorry!)

Well Orla, I’m glad you learned something and had fun but I’m not so sure I like the fact your favourite bit was watching everyone whacking shinty balls at me?! I’m a bit nervous about next week now…

Emily and josh says it’s important to stop the ball with your feet and not the stick ?not sure if that’s true or not lol?

Today we worked on stopping the ball with our feet but it’s fine to stop it with the stick too (we didn’t get onto that today?).

Ieuan loves Shinty and enjoyed playing with Tina again but most of all he enjoyed hitting the balls at Ms MacKenzie! ??

Ieuan did seem to have a wee glint in his eye when he took aim…?!

Archie has learned that when playing shinty he has to keep his eye on the ball and he enjoyed playing ‘one on one’. Archie thinks shinty is a very good sport!!

Phew, a comment that doesn’t involve enjoying hitting poor Ms MacKenzie?! Archie seemed really confident and clearly enjoys playing!

Abby said she learnt how to do ‘penguin feet’ to stop the shinty ball with her feet!
She also said that she learnt how to score a goal fast and try and hit Ms MacKenzie – not sure this will earn her a house point though!!!

Ah yes, penguin feet! Abby was great at this!! As for using me as a target, I haven’t seen her that determined all year!

Must dig out my old hockey and shinty sticks as Ciara seemed to enjoy this and has talked about it quite a lot! She told one of my colleagues yesterday than she’s a shinty player ?

She did have fun! There’s an after-school club for the younger ones on a Tuesday that she might like to go to… just ask Tina if Ciara’s keen!

Sam says he didn’t know you could stop the ball with penguin feet before but now he knows he’ll make sure he keeps doing it. He liked hitting Ms MacKenzie with the ball and says you are a very good goalie ?
