Something strange in P1…

An exciting start to Term Two!

When we returned from lunch today something strange had happened in our classroom… we found a glittery trail that led us to a heavy silver object! We had no idea what it was so put our thinking caps on and came up with some great ideas: a rock from space, some sort of egg, something from a special place that blew into our room, a meteorite, a magical stone that has something inside that is invisible.  We examined the silvery object and voted to see what we thought our best ideas were and half the class thought it might be an egg and half thought it might be something from space!

We thought about how we would know if it was an egg. It wasn’t warm so we thought we might be able to hear a heartbeat if something was living inside it. We listened intently and some people heard a tapping sound and one person was convinced there was a roar coming from deep inside! Tomorrow we might try cracking it open…I think I’ll need my hammer!

We decided we needed to look in books for some more clues and lots of people found pictures of rocks, planets and meteors that looked a little like our silvery object. We’re going to have to keep investigating and hopefully we’ll discover what this strange silvery object could be!

What an exciting way to start term! It was the first thing Abby told me about when she came out of school, she was so enthusiastic. Looks like this term is going to be just as fun as last!!

I’m hoping this term is going to be fun too… just have to subtly convince them it’s not an egg or we’ll never get into space?!

She was indeed! Some of the children were convinced there was something making noises from deep inside this ‘thing’! Love their imaginations!
