Kirkhill Primary School

This Week in P1!

What a busy first week back we’ve had! We were all super-excited about getting to know the characters in the books we’re going to be reading and everyone did a great job of recognising the words: Kipper, Floppy, Mum and Dad. Next week we’ll be meeting Biff and Chip and finding out about them! Your child has brought home some flashcards with the names of the characters and they need to work on recognising these words.  Keep the little plastic bag and words in their red folder as each week (if they’re managing to remember their words) they will get another one or two added to take home to work on. In our Literacy time we’ve also been learning the alphabet song and exploring both capital and lowercase letters. A target for this term is that we can all sing the alphabet song and point to the letters as we go!

We made an amazing start to addition this week and had lots of fun adding two sets of numbers and finding out the total. We’ll be working on addition quite a bit this term so we get confident at it. Your child SHOULD use objects or their fingers to help them add so do encourage this if helping them at home.

And on top of all that hard work we’ve also been having fun playing and learning together in our dark corner, making rockets and working with our nursery friends!
